Start Failing Forward !

One of word that speaks to me during last Sunday services, in the journey of life, it is inevitable that we fall.

The times when I make mistakes, when I stumble from our failure, when I give up in despair after my defeats. (You must have wondered which low points or valleys that mingfu could have been in during 2009; well, he did and I assure you…)

"If you don't make a mistake, you don't make anything!"

There’s nothing wrong with falling, nothing wrong with failing. Yes, it was bad. Yes, it was wrong ... but I don’t have to repeat, rehearse playing them over and over in my mind again.

Just now, I am reminded that my fall and failure can be my stepping stones for success in 2009. Growing to look the prospect of failure in the eye and move forward anyway.

“Because in life, the question is not if you will have problems physically or emotionally but how you are going to deal with them.”

Be a Man, Be an Overcomer, a Problem Solver!

"The real man smile in trouble, gather strength from distress and grows brave by reflection." - Thomas Paine

Stop failing backward and start failing forward!

Regardless of the many unhappiness, difficulties, troubles and worries that have flooded my life and distract me from my priorities, I have to remind myself that God is a Good God; He is good all the time! He is faithful! And all things will work together for good for those who love Him.

Let’s step into 2009 with a heart full of gratitude for what He has done for us and expectancy for greater things to come.

Cheers to a blessed new year ahead!! =)

The Strength of a Man

The strength of a man isn't seen in the width of his shoulders.
It's in the width of his arms that encircle you.

The strength of a man isn't in the deep tone of his voice.
It's in the gentle words he whispers.

The strength of a man isn't how many buddies he has.
It's how good a buddy he is with his children.

The strength of a man isn't in how respected he is at work.
It's in how respected he is at home.

The strength of a man isn't in how hard he hits.
It's in how tender he touches.

The strength of a man isn't in the hair on his chest.
It's in his heart, that lies within his chest.

The strength of a man isn't how many women he's loved.
It's in being true to one woman.

The strength of a man isn't in the weight he can lift.
It's in the burdens he can carry.

*Saw this post "The Strength of a Man" on one of my drafts while browsing my drafts posts just now... 3 more days to 2009, Are you excited about year 2009 too?

It's Joy!!

The weather is turning cold, the sales offers are up at the shopping malls! I can hear carols being played as I walk pass the bread shop.

W00t~ I like this feeling. I can imagine the little rain drop from the sky above melt on my hands... But yet my heart is filled with warming happy feeling. It's Joy!!

Had a really last minute gathering with robert and august at ECP just now.

We enjoyed the "Gorgeous" seafood and the Relaxing sea breeze there!! The spicy stingray, freshly-boiled shellfishes, BBQ chicken wings and wonderful sugarcane drinks! It's really an great opportunity to take time off from work and spend time with the precious one we cherish and share the joys we experience in our walk of life.

More than just the Blessings, I feel Friendship is truly Priceless.

Haha. Loving it, Embracing it and Welcoming it! I love to have you guys around!! Cheering me on, Encouraging me! It's Joy!!  (",)

It's time to count my blessings

Tomorrow will be 1st Dec 08.

25 days to Christmas.

31 days to end of 2008

It's time to count my blessings...

How time flies... It is always at this time of the year that I begin to take a step back and look back at my life in 2008 and do a mental checklist, performance evaluation or I would say a balance sheet for a closing year on myself.

How am I doing so far in the difference areas of my life? What have I achieved in 2008 that I can give thanks? What should I be setting on my mind on for the last month of 2008?

2008 was really full of interesting, fun-filled surprises, for me at least...

Nonetheless, the year is ending in nearly one month times and I'm excited about year 2009! \(^ - ^)/

(check back for more to come...)

Above All Else by CHC Band

No eyes has seen
No ear has heard
Unfailing love
Far beyond words

The cross I see
Your blood redeems
My imperfection
Your hands divine
Come shape this heart of mine

Here I stand
Thirsting for You
Here I am
Surrender to You
Let my life be Your clay
Mold me in Your way

Here I stand
Desperate for You
Here I am
A vessel for You
Let my life sing Your praise
Bring honor to Your name

Beauty unfolds
Joy overflows
Your grace begins
This treasure within

Above all else
Above all else
We exalt You
We exalt You

History in the making

Obama won!!

History in the making as Obama elected America's first black president. Finally the people voted and clearly Americans had given their mandate to the Democrats, in the hope the party will be able to turn the economy around.

What does all this mean for Asia, and particularly South-east Asia and Singapore?

Well, let us hope the Obama administration will see greater attention being placed on SEA. After all, Obama spent a part of his life in this region. The Democrats will really have to work hard in reviving the US economy, or they may face a backlash in the next presidential or congressional election. It will be a interesting four-year ahead.

It is time for change!

Never Lose Hope

One day, the villagers decided to pray for rain. On the day of prayer everyone gathered & only 1 boy came with an umbrella. That’s CONFIDENCE.

When you throw a 1 year old baby in the air, he laughs because he knows you will catch him. That’s TRUST.

Every night we go to bed, we’re not sure that we’ll get up tomorrow, but we still have many plans for the coming day. That’s HOPE.

Have confidence, believe in God & never lose hope!

Have a nice day!

How the Stock Market Works

Once upon a time in a village, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each. The villagers seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest, and started catching them. The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at $20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.

Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it! The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of him. In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers.

"Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each."

The villagers rounded up with all their savings and bought all the monkeys. Then they never saw the man, nor his assistant again, only monkeys everywhere!

Now you have a better understanding of how the stock market works!

Run Your Own Race

In each race that you run, it doesn't really matter how relatively fast you are, or how absolutely slow you are (at least to me). Ha =0)

What matters most is that you have run the race for all its worth, enjoy every small and great moment for it (why else do you run?), knowing that at the end of the race, you finish it without regrets. You could always have run faster, you could always have pushed harder. You could. but it doesn't matter anymore. Look forward, to the next race. that's the essence of how we ought to live each day in life isn't it?

Most of us have goals like finishing the race, hitting a new personal best, breaking a record. Running the race designed around our talent and potential. Instead of worrying about others we use our personal goals to stoke our desire and motivate us toward performing our personal best.

Slow down, re-pace your steps 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4. It doesn't matter. It is your race, at your pace. Let your goals guide you, to run the race a step at a time. let your dreams move you, to live life a day at a time, both with the end in mind, but with the journey at the heart of it all.

p.s. " 2008 could still be the best year yet for your life!"

A final thought from the apostle Paul ...
"You've all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You're after one that's gold eternally. I don't know about you, but I'm running hard for the finish line. I'm giving it everything I've got. No sloppy living for me! I'm staying alert and in top condition. I'm not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself." - 1 Cor.9:24-27. (the Message Bible)

(^_^) - mingfu

Something about Promotion

Promotion Is Never Granted By Performing The Tasks You Are Already Paid To Do.

"And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two." - Matthew 5:41 (NKJV)

You must do more than what is expected of you. You may think you are busy, but you must realize that everyone is busy, not just you.

There are never-ending opportunities available to a person who is willing to go beyond the confines of their "Positions Results Description." Taking on extra work by your own initiative shows your superiors that you are determined to succeed. Chances are your company aspires to expand. If you can add fuel to that fire, in time, you will be rewarded.

We all have things that are required of us: work duties, domestic chores, legal obligations, social expectations, and spiritual requirements. Many people stop and never discover what it means to be pleasing.

You cannot please your employer by doing only what he pays to you do. You only bring pleasure by doing more than your salary requires.

Our promotion in life cannot come by simply fulfilling our current requirements. The pure, refreshing water of promotion only flows when we discover what is desired of us.

Going above and beyond his duties. It takes concentrated effort, but the reward is well worth going the "extra mile."

Why Men are Happier Than Women

Some male/female humour would be a bit of fun for today's blog post.

Enjoy!

WHY MEN ARE HAPPIER THAN WOMEN
  • The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades.
  • Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat.
  • Car mechanics tell you the truth.
  • Same work, more pay.
  • Wedding dress $5000. Tuxedo rental - $100.
  • One mood all the time.
  • A five-day holiday requires only one suitcase.
  • You can open all your own jars.
  • You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness,
  • If someone forgets to invite you, he or she can still be your friend.
  • Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack.
  • You only have to shave your face and neck.
  • You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt.
  • You can "do" your nails with a pocket knife.
  • You can do your Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24th in 25 minutes.

A few extras for those who are really keen ...
  • New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet.
  • You can play with toys all your life.
  • One wallet and one pair of shoes -- one color for all seasons.
  • You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes.
  • Your last name stays put.
  • The garage is all yours.
  • Wedding plans take care of themselves.
  • Chocolate is just another snack.
  • You can never be pregnant.
  • Wrinkles add character.
  • Three pairs of shoes are more than enough.
  • You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look.

No wonder men are happier!

BOLD From The Leadership Files

'What would you do if you were ten times bolder? Go out and do it. When and what has it cost you in life not to be bold?'- Laure Beth Jones, Hyperion 1995

A bold colour stands out from the rest.

We make font bold to emphasise the point.

Life makes way for the bold person.

Fortune favours the bold, the brave, the courageous.

The small vision fails to motivate.

The vision that takes breath away, that'll capture attention.

Boldness is not bold unless we laugh on the edge of our nervous boundaries.

Bold is Winston Churchill standing on the rooftops of London yelling defiance to Hitler whilst bombs rained down on the city around him.

Be bold, be strong, for the Lord your God is with you! (Josh 1:9)

AIG Inc Hit By Subprime Mortgage Crisis

A policy holder reads articles of assurance pasted on the walls of the American International Assurance (AIA) building, as some wait to withdraw their current policies on Wednesday Sept. 17, 2008 in Singapore. Singapore's central bank said Tuesday the local unit of embattled insurance giant American International Group Inc.

Hundreds of anxious policyholders thronged insurer AIA Singapore’s Customer Service Centre in Finlayson Green — many of them arriving well before it opened at 8.45am yesterday.

AIG, the world's largest insurer, has been hit by a wave of downgrades by credit-rating agencies worried that the deteriorating housing market is further undermining the company's battered finances. (AP Photo/Wong Maye-E)

Many wanted to surrender their life insurance policies, fearful about the company’s stability. (Read more)

Learning to walk

Recently have being reminded to learn from the basics - Learning to walk.

Like a child we learn to pull ourselves up to stand by holding to something. Learning to walk, pick yourself up, move on in the journey of life, its inevitable that there will be times we fall. The times when we make mistakes, when we stumble, when we give up in despair.

There's nothing simply wrong with trying new ways / ideas, nothing wrong with failing. What unacceptable is not picking oneself up to move and step out to try again, or retreating in fear. Allowing the past to haunt you persistently.

So often we simply drag on, carrying on the fears, the apprehension that continues to haunt us from those past failures. But it doesn't work... you simply got to lift yourself up, and take the next step again, a step at a time, and the next time you face the obstacle again, you know the past is just that, past.

Humans do makes mistakes, experience valley times in life... Even if we are not the best among our friends, the most talented, wise or skilled. God believes in you, He is faithful and patient enough to see us through all our mistakes.. so that we can be more molded in our character, so that we can be released for His righteous works.

Let the weak say I am strong! God's strength is made perfect in our weakness... when we feel the weakest, that's when God can show Himself strong in our lives when we choose to LEAN ON HIM!

From the Inside Out

A thousand times I've failed
Your mercy remains And should I stumble again
I'm caught in Your grace
Everlasting
Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame

Your will above all else
My purpose remains
The art of losing myself
In bringing You praise
Everlasting
Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame

In my heart and my soul
Lord I give You control
Consume me from the inside out
Lord let justice and praise
Become my embrace
To love you from the inside out

Everlasting
Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame
And the cry of my heart is to bring You praise
From the inside out Lord, my soul cries out

My heart and my soul
Lord I give You control
Consume me from the inside out Lord
Let justice and praise become my embrace
To love you from the inside out

* From the inside out Lord, my soul cries out Lord

Thank God Is Firday!! Finally it's Friday again! woot~

In their menu. It's stated to be a Meat lovers heavean! Hog's Breath Cafe, one of Australian beef, Aussie land's largest themed steakhouse chains has come to Singapore. They actually slow cook our Prime Rib for up to 18 hours, then finish with high temperature searing on the char grill to seal in the flavour for your enjoyment. Yummy yummy...

The others try the streaks, char grilled chicken teriyaki and I order their Tex-Mex Combo. haha. The food is nice, alot of variety... less PORK and a lot more veg to go with the meal.

Was Tempting to get their desserts...hehe

Had a Great Time! It is a great feeling to get together with good friends over dinner and talk our hearts' content. A superb bunch of friends with great advice to offer and lots to chat about... Wished to have more of these fun-loving times! Cheers to long-lasting friendship! =)

"Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad?" - Psalm 42:11 (New Living Translation)

Success

SUCCESS
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.

Happy 43rd Birthday, Singapore!

(Photo courtesy of Yee Qing Xiang on NDP)

I must say as a country, 43 years of independence is actually a very short time. Though we are small, yet we have greater influence than many others. Surely, we should never despise our youth or lacks cos we never know what great destiny we can achieve.

Sometimes, it is the small and the seemingly useless things, in the eyes of man, that great destiny could lay within. If Singapore, being small and young, can achieve much cos of perseverance, self-discipline and wisdom, then the same could apply to each and every one of us. We can achieve much more if we learn to perseveres, have self-discipline and rely on wisdom from above.

This year, NDP, the our Air force really did a wonderful aerial display performances. The performance by the Black Knights was spectacular!! Very exciting and beautiful display!!Their new adv on the TV very  cool~ and creatvie too.

Here's to our great future ahead! And may we have more good years ahead too!!

The Leadership Files - Unfinished Business

Quote - 'You can't always get what you want' - Mick Jagger

We don't live in a perfect world.

Learn to live with imperfect situations, unresolved issues and unfulfilled expectations without losing your great spirit.

There's always something that isn't the way you want it.

Get happy in spite of this.

Are you planning to attend the Arts Festival this year?

The Singapore Arts Festival first began life in 1977 as a national arts festival celebrating local arts activity of Singapore’s diverse communities.

Over the last three decades, the Festival has played a symbiotic and catalytic role in the development of the artistic and cultural life of Singapore.

It has helped to transform the city’s cultural landscape, turning it into one of Asia’s major cultural capitals today. It has influenced the work of artists and generated a growing public demand for the arts, spawning new cultural platforms, events, and movements that help underpin the lively cultural scene in present Singapore.

Today, the Festival is characterised by a progressive and innovative spirit, committed to commissioning new works by principally Singapore and Asian artists, investing in works that bridges disciplines, cultures, language and geographical boundaries; exploring, among others, contemporary issues related to history, memory, migration, and urban living; discovering emergent and promising artists; and encouraging regional and international artistic exchanges and collaborations.

The Festival remains the largest singular event in Singapore’s arts calendar, inviting artists from more than 20 countries, offering more than 500 activities attracting up to 700,000 attendances - a 4-week infusion of performances and events that inspire and capture the public imagination of the city.

You can read more of the coming events and Asian showcase over here.

*Jio me too~! If you going down this week for the Singapore Street Festival or any of the music show~!

*JJ wrote a song for the Sichuan victims:

He also wrote his prayer on his blog:

In Jesus' Holy Name I pray
Amen."

Fio
Mark Kwan

You Were Born To Be Loved

You were born to be loved
And you are receiving that love through your life.
You were born to be loved
And you are receiving that love through your life.

The love from God that started since the beginning of your birth
Becomes connected with us meeting each other.
You were born to be loved
And you are receiving that love through your life.

* Found this on youtube... This is one heart-warming performance from Star King episode 8 dated March 03, 2007. It shows the performance of Yoo Ye Eun, a 5-year old genius pianist, who can't see since birth. She can play the piano after listening to the tune only once and the computer is her only piano instructor!

5 years old and she's amazing. so touched...

Send compassion to fellow Asians. - Aid Myanmar

On 2 May 2008, Cyclone Nargis battered southern Myanmar, causing massive destruction. To date, 23,000 people have perished, over 44,000 are missing in Yangon and as many as 1 million people have been left homeless. Estimated 80,000 dead in the township of Labutta there alone.

The Irrawaddy region took the brunt of the storm, with some villages almost totally eradicated and vast rice-growing areas wiped out. The storm uprooted trees, toppled electricity and telephone poles, and burst water pipes, leaving the several million without basic utilities. Click to read more.

(A view of dozens of destroyed homes in Haing Guy Island, in the Irrawaddy division of southwest Myanmar in the wake of Cyclone Nargis.)

The resulting convulsion is major; far worse than anyone can imagine. Being here on our little island, Singaporeans are truly very blessed. Let us not forget the less fortunate and the victims of this disaster... esp. when 3 of my Myanmar friends is still unable to contact their family members in Yangon... Let's Pray and GIVE.

*Please demonstrate your love. You can give through Red Cross or World Vision. They are actively responding and channeling emergency relief for the restoration of broken lives and livelihood. Send compassion to fellow Asians. You cannot love without giving.
